The Wizard of Oz

The Senior classes combined Literacy with Art this week to create the children’s own versions of Scarecrow from this term’s novel The Wizard of Oz. We had great fun learning how to use a paper pattern and choosing colours and fabric for our scarecrows.

Hope you like the finished products!

Gaelic Football Blitz

On Friday, June 16th, we travelled to Davidstown GAA grounds for a Gaelic football blitz for small schools. We had a great day. Shielbaggan was represented by three teams, with each team playing six games. Each team got a chance to play on the large inflatable pitch. The emphasis was on fun and participation.
Many thanks to Davidstown GAA for looking after us so well on the day.
Here are our teams and also a photo of all the teams that took part in the blitz.

School Tour

What a day we had for our school tour this year. The weather was amazing and it made our day at Shielbaggan Outdoor Education Centre all the more enjoyable. We climbed walls, shot arrows, went caving and last but certainly not least , we went coasteering off the rocks in Slade. Thanks to the staff in Shielbaggan OEC for a great day.

Seaview Utd

Congratulations to Seaview Utd on winning the u14 Div 2 league title this week. Pictured below are our representatives on the team. Well done to all involved.

Rackard League

Well done to the girls and boys from the four local schools who won both the camogie and hurling Rackard League district finals in Taghmon on May 17, 2017. There was a sense of deja-vu as some of the players were on the teams that also these titles in 2015.

The girls played Barntown in today’s game and the boys played neighbours Tintern. Both teams now progress to the Co. semi finals which will be played in the coming weeks. Well done everyone! We are all very proud of you.

Malin Head to Mizen Head

Here we are running from Malin Head to Mizen Head. Everyone in the school played their part. We completed the 612 km as part of our Active School activities during the Christmas to Easter term this year. For part of the term we ran around the basketball court-12 and a half times round was a km! When the weather improved, we ran around the pitch- a km was 6 times round! Lots of complaints about the hill on the pitch though!

Easter Eggs

As part of our Art lessons this month, we studied the Elements of Art. Here we are learning about form. We’re making Easter Eggs from papier-mâché.

At last the papier-mâché has dried and it’s time to turn the balloons into Easter Eggs! Don’t they look good enough to eat!
